Holzweg/Woodwork

Performance, in Collaboration with Adrien Tirtiaux, S.M.A.K., Ghent, 2016

At the annual performance evening in S.M.A.K., Adrien Tirtiaux, whom I’ve been assisting for six months, helps me with realising my work.

In “Holzweg/Woodwork”, nothing is as it seems and relations are turned upside-down. Interactions between active and passive performances are called into question by the ephemeral state of a very fragile row of matches leading through the entire space.

In avoiding obstacles, this row encapsulates the space as well as the duration of the never-changing procedure of setting up the matches. Within the row, a provocation to interact can be discerned – the row strives for a transition from the straight-lined and well-ordered to the burned and distorted.
